“Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.” In that phrase, can’t you just feel the pain of Romeo’s tragic love? Such dangerous beauty. What a masterpiece of a tortured love gone wrong! And now, we are in the midst of a time that should be full of conversation hearts, balloons, flowers, love, and adoration (yes we’re into the lovey-ness of Valentine’s tradishes, no we don’t care if it’s Hallmark-induced)
And yet, we have lost our Romeo. Our beautiful little red beta fish Romeo jumped toward freedom (we are assuming it was a “Nemo” sitch—an attempt to land in the sink pipes leading out to Lake Mich). And next to his bowl we still have a sad, sorry little Juliet. An elegant blue beta fish who has been in a tizzy ever since Romeo landed in the muffin pan. We know how this story goes, and we’ve been watching Juliet closely and every night bidding her a ‘Good Night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, that we shall say good night till it be morrow.”
We hope you all enjoy a happy-hearted Valentine’s Day! Watch your fish! |

Hello, Lover!
We're pretty die-hard about our city. Sure, NYC is cool and all, but in our hearts, the Big Apple has nothing on the Windy City. xcept maybe sample sales. You know, those fabulous trunk show style blowouts on all the top designers? Well, Chicago, our time has come.
Say hello to Thread Lounge. This Cali-based company brought its wares to Lincoln Park at the beginning of December, and guess what? They've decided to stay The middle of February will see the shop's temporary location at 1009 Armitage move right down the street—for good! Ecstatic? Absolutely! A girl could literally get lost amongst all the cute hats, bags, coats and sweaters to be found in here. Grab a sexy halter from Single or a sassy cheetah tube dress by Wendy Katlan for a night on the town. Top off any look with adorable hats from San Diego Hat or a fashionable pashmina—they've got 'em in every color of the rainbow! And the best part? Everything is heavily discounted.
With so much great stuff, the hardest part will be deciding what to take home—we want it all!

Necessary Accessories
We've always been intrigued by that whole mystic, ancient culture thing—we can totally picture ourselves at Buddha’s feet or as one of Cleopatra’s ladies in waiting.
So we totally dug the vibe of Embellish Accessories on Lincoln. With beautiful, exotic gem necklaces hanging from faux tree branches, the décor is perfect for the pieces. Bracelets lie on beds of stones and earrings dangle from sculpture-esque holders. As for the wares, the shop features fun belts, hats and wallets, but the main focus is the eclectic collection of jewelry. We had a major case of the gimme's over the Miracle Icon meditation beads—so Madonna. Element-infused bracelets from Montréal designer Ann Marie Chagnon also caught our eye, as well as items from charity-driven brand Ubuntu (for every dollar spent on a Ubuntu design, 10% goes to either Religions for Peace or 1% For the Planet.) We're no experts, but we thought the store had a nice variety—nothing looked cheap, but was relatively affordable at the same time.
We are so sending our boyfriend here for Valentine's Day!

All the Happy People
Sometimes we just need an escape, especially post-holidays. We’re a bit overloaded on family, stressed about work and straight up sick of snow. Since a flight to South America is out of the question, we’ve settled for the next best thing.
Part restaurant, part bar, People’s Lounge is a simmering destination for our desired diversion. Not only do we drool over their flavorful tapas, but the ambience is steeped with cozy character—wrought-iron chandeliers, walls adorned with colorful art, 14-foot communal wood tables, and a DJ spinning world beats. Scrumptious small plates are their specialty ,including datiles con bacon (stuffed dates), empanadas with sweet chili pork, gambas (shrimp), and their famous queso de cabra (goat cheese and tomato sauce). For those with a larger yearning, the pistachio-encrusted tilapia and skirt steak are mind-altering. While the impressive oak bar boasts the typical fare of wine and beer, the white and red sangria top the charts.
Voted “Best Small Plates” and “Best Bar Scene” in Chi-town, there is a reason we’ve adopted People as our paradise away from reality.

Stitch-N-Bitch
We like to read. (Really, we do!) But we’re busy. Lately our “reading material” has come from catalogs and food labels. So book clubs are out of the question.
Now a fine stitch-n-bitch, on the other hand = priceless. Nothing like a bunch of gals gossiping over crochet needles. ‘Course this screen-printed pair of porcelain cups with saucers is so precious that we’d rock Knit Night on a daily basis, just to bust them out. Too bad we’re not as disciplined with reading.

Eerie Aesthetic
We love anything that bucks conventionalism. Tattooed bodies, super-bendy people that twist up like pretzels… love’em, but when it comes to jewelry it can be downright difficult to find something that masterfully mixes odd and cool, which is why it was love when we spied a pair of thorn studs online.
Not only do these beauties satisfy our sense of the unusual, but they exude a fierce yet natural modern vibe that we love!

Sweet and Smart
Our nickname in college was “Sweet Tooth,” and though so many things have changed since those days, our love of goodies has been a constant. Sadly, we recognize our passion for sugar isn’t always the healthiest, so we love Whole Bakers cookies!
Gluten-free and kosher-certified, these delicious and chewy bites are made with all-natural and organic products. With flavorful options like Snicker Do, CoCoNuts Maroon, and Chewy Choco Bite, anyone can indulge their desire… which is just as it should be!
